Sabres Inline Hockey Club

Our History

Formed in 1995 by interested families from Howick, Pakuranga and Manukau, the Auckland Sabres In-line Hockey Club began practices at a converted factory in Ben Lomond Crescent, Pakuranga.

As the club grew in size and interest, a benefactor emerged in the form of Nutralife Health and Fitness Ltd. This company based in Pakuranga, offered to support the club by taking up the lease on a building in Cryers Road, East Tamaki and paying for any shortfall in yearly costs and maintenance.

During this time, Nutralife Health and Fitness Ltd contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars towards the success of the Auckland Sabres In-line Hockey Club Inc.

The lease on the building in East Tamaki expired in March 2004, at which point Nutralife Health and Fitness Ltd greatly reduced their financial support of the Auckland Sabres In-line Hockey Club Inc though remaining a major sponsor for 2004 and 2005.

With the reduced financial support of Nutralife, the club had to relocate to “The Nutralife Dome” in Roscommon Road, Manurewa. This took place in January 2004 with the assistance of grants from The Lion Foundation and Pub Charity, which added to the funds raised by members for the construction of the new amenities. While at a lower cost the new premises had the advantage of providing a bigger rink with a better playing surface.

In September 2005 the club was given notice to vacate by the landlord of the Roscommon Rd facility and in 2005 moved from Wiri to the Papatoetoe Roller Sports Club premises in Wallace Rd Papatoetoe. Work was then undertaken to install the Sabres playing surface into the Papatoetoe Roller Sports Clubs facility. In 2006 the club changed its name to Sabres In-line Hockey Club Incorporated, as the majority of its members reside in Manukau City.
